Payment Plans & Financing
Cost should not be the thing that decides whether you have a lawyer. Here is exactly how financing works — including the one step most people miss.
Ask About a Payment PlanGood representation costs money, and it almost always arrives at the worst possible moment financially. Our office works with financing providers — including Affirm, through the secure payment systems our firm uses — so that a fee you cannot pay in one go can be spread over time instead.
The process is simple, but there is one detail that trips people up constantly, and it is worth knowing before you start.
How Financing Works
Start with our office — not Affirm’s customer service line.
This is the step people get wrong. Affirm finances legal fees through the payment platforms law firms use, but only when the application comes from the firm handling your case. Affirm’s general customer service line is not set up to answer questions about legal-fee financing, and people who call it directly are sometimes told that legal matters cannot be financed at all. Through the link we send you, they can be. Call us first and we will get that link to you.
Before You Apply
We would rather be straight with you about how this works than have you find out later:
What Financing Covers
Payment plans apply to the matters we charge a fee for — criminal defense, DUI, domestic violence, and traffic citations.
If your matter is workers’ compensation or Social Security disability, you do not need financing at all. We charge you no legal fees in those cases — in workers’ comp the insurance company pays our fees, and in disability our fee comes out of your award only if you win.
Common Questions
Q: Does applying for financing change whether you take my case?
A: No. Those are two separate decisions. We decide whether we are the right firm for your matter when we talk; Affirm decides the financing on its own. Plenty of people ask about payment plans in the first phone call — it is a normal question and it does not count against you.
Q: What if I am not approved?
A: Call us anyway. An application that does not go through is not unusual and it is not the only route to representation. We would rather talk about what is workable than have you assume the answer is no and face the charge alone.
Q: Do I have to do the application online by myself?
A: The application itself is online — that is the only way the secure link works — but you do not have to figure it out alone. Call the office and someone will stay on the phone and walk you through it.
